Project-led greening
Ten projects were developed by members of our community greening forum, some of which (e.g., Funafloat and Pocket Forest) had already been in the early stages of conceptualisation before Mapping Green Dublin began. Other projects were developed through the engagement of the MGD team with the community. The projects that have emerged focus on:
- Inter-generational greenspaces
- Canal and walkway activation
- Small projects with big impact
Project type | Project |
Intergenerational greenspaces | Community garden, Inchicore Turvey Park development Greenspace improvement on Devoy Road Intergenerational private gardens The D8 bench project |
Canal and walkway activity | FUNAFLOAT – water-based activity for young people along the Grand canal Grand Canal Towpath from Sally’s Bridge to Drimnagh Luas stop A pilgrim path – Camino – a walkway in Dublin 8 |
Small projects with a big impact. | Parklets Pocket forests |
The projects impact both public and private spaces, advocate for greater youth and senior citizen involvement, and work with local schools and local organisations/ enterprises and state bodies. Some are already underway including improvements to Turvey Park, the establishment of Pocket Forests as a social enterprise, and the planning and design of a canal project (Funafloat).
